An interview with another new canberrakids columnist, Kirsten Mc

Who are you and how did you get here?
I am Kirsten and like Trish I was born here. As for how I got to canberrakids, the site was highly recommended to me by, ah, well Trish actually. Maybe she was promoting her own column, but I decided to stay anyway (after all, she is pretty entertaining).

Don’t tell me you’ve lived in Canberra your whole life too?
Not quite, but well, yeah. I moved away for a few years in my early twenties but then I came back – who could resist the mountain views and all the child friendly services?

So you have kids?
One and a half. Actually more like one and seven-ninths – my four year old, Liam, is very keen to welcome his baby sibling around mid winter. I’m pretty keen myself – it’s taken a while to get this far!

What is this column going to be about?
Ah, now that would be telling. Though I imagine some stories about Liam and the new baby might just find their way in. Liam is most excited to become a big brother finally, but I think he’s in for a rude awakening very soon. Trish promised to keep stories about dirty nappies to a minimum, but then, she doesn’t live with a newborn…

Who is PJ?
Hang on, isn’t that Trish’s husband? Oh, you mean who is Chris? He’s my husband. I met him about 13 years ago while waitressing at his favourite café. Of course, I moved to the States for a year a few weeks later, breaking his heart, but we hooked up again when I came back and the rest is history. He’s been at home with Liam two days a week since I went back to work part-time when Liam was 12 months old. But now that I’ll be on maternity leave he has the dubious pleasure of resuming full-time work. I don’t think he’s looking forward to that quite as much as I’m looking forward to my mat leave!

So you do have a day job then?
For the moment I do, but maternity leave looms large and then I’ll be able to devote my time to your reading pleasure – in between changing those dirty nappies and maintaining calm between Liam and the baby, anyway.
