Kids at the National Museum of AustraliaChildrens stories, experiences and interpretations feature throughout the National Museum of Australia, where young visitors are encouraged to make their own contributions to displays and exhibitions. The childrens content is not a watered-down version of the rest of the Museums material but a different interpretation, a different way of looking at the world. The fun starts at kSpace – Creating a City of the Future , a hands-on interactive exhibit allowing children to picture life in the future – and then see it materialise in front of their eyes! Kids design futuristic vehicles and buildings and see their creations come alive in a sophisticated 3-D virtual reality theatre. Another highlight is Our Place – a discovery display with four cubbies – and Story Place. Live storytelling, puppets, videos and events related to Museum exhibitions all happen in the Story Place, created in the shape of a boab tree. Free storytelling takes place at 10am Wednesdays (except during school holidays) for under-fives and on the first and second Sunday of the month and every day of school holidays from 11am for older kids. Open 7 days, 9.00am – 5.00pm (except Christmas Day) Lawson Cres, Acton Peninsula, Canberra Free entry |
